Is There Actually a God? Things Unseen

I have told very few people this story.  Probably because it scared the you-know-what out of me when it happened.  Even now I struggle with the thought of sharing it.  But, it’s one of a handful of experiences that have convinced me that there is something else “out there” – something other than what we can physically see and touch.

I thought of it as the result of a message that I heard on Sunday.  The pastor was referencing the Garden of Eden and how the garden was blocked off on the East side by “cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth…”. I have to admit that, even if one believes that there is a God, this is some weird stuff – flaming swords and angels guarding some garden that nobody has ever seen.  The bible has many references to angels, demons, and the devil. Just a few examples include the devil tempting Jesus after He had fasted for 40 days.  Jacob wrestling with the angel.  God allowing Satan to test Job.

So my story.  I am the youngest of three – I have two older sisters.  When I was around the age of five or six (maybe a little older), my sisters had a sleepover with some of their friends.  One of the things they did that night for entertainment was to “play” with a Ouija Board that one of the girls had brought over.  I remember watching them play.  There was a lot of laughter, as well as accusations going back and forth that one or another of the girls was purposely moving the planchette (just learned that’s what it’s called) to get the correct answers to questions that were asked of the “board”.  Of course, one by one the girls would deny moving the planchette.  As I watched, my curiosity peaked.  Were the girls telling the truth?  Were they lying?  Was there some supernatural force moving the planchette, or were some of the girls just “messing” with the others?

Well, the next morning, as I walked into our living room, I noticed the game laying on the floor where the girls had been playing the night before.  Curiosity was still getting the best of me.  So, like a dummy, I went over to the board, placed my hands on the planchette, and asked the question – “who are you?”  (Here I am today at the age of 54, and I’m still getting a bit of anxiety thinking about what happened next.)  The freaking disk started moving.  Now some of you may think that I’m BS-ing, but I remember clear as day that the disk moved, on its own, to the letters S-A-T-A-N. I don’t remember what happened next. I’m sure I ran as fast as a could as far away from that board as I could get. But, I have never forgotten that day.

As I mentioned above, since then I have had a few other “supernatural” experiences, which I may or may not share down the road.  I have heard some experiences that others have had as well.  Have you ever seen or experienced something that you couldn’t explain?  We’ve all heard the stories about the “light” that those who have died and come back to life have told about. So, what is the light?  Are there angels?  Are there demons?  Is there a Devil? Where is this Garden of Eden?  And, most importantly, does God really exist?
